The American government has given the pharmaceutical company, Moderna, US$176 million to develop a bird flu vaccine, in case of an outbreak in humans.
Moderna will develop an mRNA vaccine to fight the illness.
Currently bird flu primarily affects poultry and cattle, and is relatively harmless to people, but according to the BBC, scientists want to be better prepared in case the virus mutates and poses a more serious risk to humans.
