ON THIS DAY in MISSIONARY HISTORY
On 5 August 1876 at the age of 28, Mary Slessor, boarded the SS Ethiopia, a Liverpool steamship sailing to Duke Town in Calabar, Nigeria.
The journey from Britain to West Africa in 1876 took about five weeks.
