Two security officers were robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash on Monday evening, 19 August 2024. According to information, the officers were driving to Rustenburg on the N4 road near Marikana off ramp when a black Mercedes Benz hit the cash in transit truck from the back and forced it off the road. The suspects allegedly shot towards the direction of security officers, then bombed the truck and took an undisclosed amount of cash. As the suspects fled from the scene, they came across a marked police vehicle and shot at it, but no one was injured. The suspects also exchanged fire with members of another security company. They reached a dead end as they drove towards K4 mine, then drove back and shot at the security officers.
A rifle with obliterated serial number as well as 22 ammunition were found at the scene.
No arrest has been effected and the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) is investigating.
