A 41-year-old police Sergeant attached to the Anti-Gang Unit and his female accomplice (32), were served with summons to appear before the Hennenman Magistrates Court on 15 January 2025, for alleged possession of drugs. They were re-arrested by the Welkom Serious Organised Crime Investigation detectives on Thursday, 19 December 2024.
On 11 May 2023, the Hawks executed a search warrant at the Sergeant’s place of residence in Hennenman. He was found in the company of a female. Upon searching, 14 tablets of mandrax were found. Both suspects were released pending a forensic report.
Acting Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) in the Free State, Brigadier Sophie Hange says the arrest is evidence that the wheels of justice, although sometimes slow, are always in motion. “Despite the delay, justice will prevail. Communities must understand that releasing an arrested suspect does not mean the end. No one will be spared,” she said.
