Sea Border unit members, deployed in the Garden Route District as part of Safer Festive Season operations, ensured that a suspect is behind bars for stolen property valued at R29 300 recovered in Groot Brakrivier.
On Thursday, 19 December 2024 at about 00:45 Groot Brakrivier police members responded to a burglary where a cell phone and cash were stolen. Information gathered on scene was shared with Sea Border police members and on neighbourhood watch groups. Their swift response and the deployment of drone technology took the team to where the suspect was hiding. His freedom was short-lived when the team caught up with him. A search of the man resulted in the recovery of the cell phone and an undisclosed amount of cash which were stolen during the burglary. The police confiscated the items and arrested the suspect, believed to be a Mozambican national, on a charge of house breaking and theft.
In an unrelated matter, On Thursday, 19 December 2024 at about 16:30 Knysna police members acted on information received from a victim in a sexual assault related matter. The members operationalised the information and proceeded with a search on a farm near Rheenendal. During the search they found a rifle with a silencer and various calibre of ammunition. All these items were confiscated. The 70 year old suspect is facing charges of unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition. He is also facing a charge of sexual assault.
Both suspects will appear in court charged.
These arrests and confiscations are testament of an affective partnership between community and police. The deployment of various police resources to safeguard communities will be sustained for the duration of the festive period and beyond.
