Double murder in Lyttelton: home robbery suspect arrested within 24 hours BY RONELLE SNYDERS

Urbanites are much more exposed to violent crime than they think.

Lyttelton SAPS responded on 2025/01/28 when they received information about a white suspect who was involved in a double murder and house robbery in the Lyttelton area on the evening of 2025/01/27.

The Lyttelton SAPS’s detective services were able to determine that the suspect’s modus operandi was to identify a house that is on the market for sale and then approach and contact the owners.

On the day of the murder, the suspect went to the premises and arranged to meet with the homeowner. In the house, the suspect then carried out his robbery plan. Unfortunately, it didn’t go as planned and the occupants of the property fought back.

During the robbery, the suspect, who was armed with a firearm and a knife, stabbed two of the victims who tragically succumbed to their injuries and died at the scene.

Members of the local CPF, security, and SAPS were on the scene, and all other forensic teams of the SAPS were there.

On 2025/01/28, the Lyttelton SAPS team, consisting of members of the Fish Pole and Detective Area, received information on the whereabouts of the suspect.

The team immediately went to the area where the suspect was and established an observation operation. The suspect was identified and located by the surveillance team.

A tactical plan was then launched and executed on the property where the suspect was located. After the raid and the suspect was trapped and the area was secured, the team was taken to a home where the suspect was staying.

At the suspect’s property, the vehicle used by him was recovered along with the murder weapon, a firearm, bloodstained clothing, stolen property taken from the murder crime scene and equipment used to tie up the victims. A Nissan X-Trail, .357 magnum revolver, two knives, keys for a Honda car are also among the items found at the site.

All forensic actors were called to the scene of arrest to record and collect the evidence recovered by the team.

The suspect will appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court within 48 hours and will stand trial on charges related to two counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder, house robbery, possession of stolen property and possession of dangerous weapons used in the commission of an offence. .

Station Commander Brigadier Toohey thanked all the members involved from the original crime scene to the arrest of the suspect and the investigation. We would also like to thank the various security companies that helped when the removal team asked for backups.
