Johannesburg Water has confirmed an unexpected water outage scheduled for Tuesday, December 19, in Ferndale, Randburg, Johannesburg.
The interruption, set from 08:00 to 18:00, aims to upgrade the existing 75mm AC pipe to the new 110mm MPVC.
JOHANNESBURG WATER: HERE ARE THE AFFECTED AREAS
According to Johannesburg Water, the following streets will be affected by the water cut:
-
Bond
-
Elgin
-
Vine
-
York
-
Pine
This announcement follows a recent maintenance operation at the Rabie Ridge reservoir, where water was temporarily isolated for Rand Water to replace its Rem Allandale meter valve.
Despite improvements in the system, high demand is hampering full recovery.
Rand Water has expressed concern about the ongoing strain on the water system due to excessive consumption across all Gauteng Metros.
The impact of a heatwave has exacerbated the situation, pushing water usage beyond the established targets in all Metros.
The bulk supplier notes that despite efforts, water consumption remains significantly above the set targets, with production exceeding 5,000 Mega litres (Ml/d) per day.
In 2023, Rand Water introduced Station 5A, increasing its maximum peak water production to 5,200 Ml/d per day.
Makenosi Maroo, spokesperson for Rand Water, clarified that the current extraction exceeds the water license limits, with the system pumping at maximum capacity.
Consequently, Rand Water cannot produce additional water beyond its current levels for municipalities.
POWER CUTS ALSO HEADED FOR THESE AREAS
In preparation for essential maintenance work on Thursday, 21 December 2023, City Power has issued a notice to its Johannesburg customers regarding a scheduled power interruption.
The interruption is slated to take place from 8:00 to 18:00 and is imperative for the maintenance of the Lunar substation and Lenasia South Substation networks.
Several areas will be affected, including Fine Town, parts of Lenasia South Ext 4, Lenasia South Ext. 7 (Migson Manor), Unaville Plots (Grasmere Toll Plaza), Lenasia South Ext. 1, 4, Kiasha Park shopping centre, Lenasia South Civic Centre, Lenasia South Hospital, and Daxina Clinic.
