Wybo Nicolai has spent the past three decades helping expose the horrors of Christian persecution, serving with Open Doors USA and creating the revered World Watch List, a ranking of the 50 most dangerous countries in the world to live as a Christian.
As Open Doors releases its 2023 World Watch List, Nicolai Is sharing his harrowing personal story.
He told CBN’s Faithwire he began as a researcher on the Soviet Union in the late 1980s, finding himself looking for ways to track global persecution.
That quest led him to create the World Watch List in 1991 — and he hasn’t looked back.
This hero of the faith, who reports on some of the most diabolical locations and movements in the world, has risked prison time — and worse, going above and beyond the call of duty to explore the tragic depths of persecution plaguing believers across the globe.
Despite the fears that could come with the job, he perseveres and refuses to back down from his mission. “You have to remember you live twice.
We live now and then we have eternity with Jesus,” he told CBN’s Faithwire. “Looking back now for 37 years working with persecuted Christians … [God] has protected me.
I’m extremely thankful for that.
I’ve been arrested a number of times.
I have a death sentence from one country, but I’m still here.”
