Gaza rockets – Barrage fired toward southern Israel after strikes

In response to the air raids on Gaza, rockets were fired from Strip toward southern Israel.

Reporting from Gaza City, Al Jazeera’s Youmna El Sayed said “barrages of rockets are being launched from the Gaza Strip toward southern Israeli towns. We also saw the Iron Dome trying to intercept these rockets.

“This is the first response since the Israeli attack on Gaza yesterday.. after 36 hours it is the first Palestinian response,” she added.

Hamas said in a statement that the rockets launched from Gaza were “a unified response” to the “massacre committed by the Israeli occupation.”

“The unified response of the resistance is necessary and continuous against all aggression,” added the movement.

On the Israeli side, authorities told citizens living in towns along the Gaza border fence to remain close to or inside shelters.

Reporting from Ashkelon in southern Israel, Al Jazeera’s Willem Marx said that the Israeli army was on high alert as sirens were initiated and the Iron Dome intercepts incoming rockets.
