The Education Labor Relations Council has fired thirty teachers since April this year after being convicted of sexual misconduct.

The council also confirmed that the dismissal of a further 34 teachers by provincial education departments is substantially fair after the teachers referred unfair dismissal disputes to him for arbitration.

They were convicted of, among other things, assault, brutal behavior, insult of staff, neglect, gross dishonesty, assault of learners, theft and absent without leave.

Another professional teacher body, the SA Council for Educators, deleted 31 teachers indefinitely from its register, including 22 for sexual offenses, between March last year and April this year.
