Google Chrome code spotted by Twitter (now X) user @Leopeva64 suggests that the Alphabet Inc-owned company plans to add AI-powered tab organisation and other new settings to the browser.
Reportedly, users will be able to access the feature through the browser’s three-dot menu or by right-clicking on a tab.
Right-clicking a tab will produce a small pop-up window where users can name the grouped tabs and see which ones will be grouped together.
When a user clicks on the feature in the pop-up menu, it produces an “Organising…” message with a loading animation below.
“Chrome’s ‘Organise tabs’ dialogue now displays a loading animation similar to what you see in Google’s AI-powered search results or in the Side panel (in case anyone still doubted that this feature will use AI,” said @Leopeva64.
The Twitter user also spotted several new AI-focused settings for the browser, including an “Expanded theme gallery”, accessible through a new “Advanced” settings menu.
When enabled, the feature will give users “advanced wallpaper search options” in the customisation panel for Google Chrome.
Allegedly, the feature will bring a similar ability to Android 14’s generative AI wallpaper generator feature.
It is unclear whether Google’s new AI-focused features will make it to Chrome for Android. However, the company is working on a new autofill feature for the browser on Android that will make it compatible with third-party password managers.
