KeymasterAlan Winde Re-Elected As Western Cape Premier by Heinrich in vibe
With the majority of Western Cape residents supporting the Democratic Alliance with their provincial vote in the general elections in May, Alan Winde has now been sworn in for another term as premier.
Winde received 26 votes during the secret ballot, with the ANC’s candidate, Khalid Sayed, receiving 14.
Winde and 42 MPLs were sworn in today by Acting Western Cape Judge President Patricia Goliath, with DA MPL Daylin Mitchell re-elected as the speaker of the provincial legislature.
Winde said he was honoured to be re-elected while recognising there are still massive challenges to overcome in the Western Cape.
“We are still faced with massive challenges but with the help of my cabinet, the provincial government team and the residents of this great province, we can fulfil the pledges we have made to keep growing our economy, enabling more jobs, making our province energy secure and a dignified place where all residents have the opportunities and support that they need to thrive.”
“I saw how many of our residents are struggling and the responsibility that we as government have, to step in and provide that critical social safety net for each of them. I owe it to you our residents to work even harder as I lead this government once more.”
The Western Cape is the first province to elect its cabinet, but it’s an entirely different story at national level, and reports are still flying around negotiations between the various parties as Ramaphosa’s Government of National Unity takes shape.
With the MK Party’s bid to halt the election of the president now dismissed, South Africans will know by tomorrow who our next chief will be.
