Body of missing hiker found on Otter Trail in Tsitsikamma by Ronelle Snyders
The Otter Trail is a five-(5) day hiking trail that begins at the Storms River mouth rest camp and ends at the small resort town of Natures Valley in the de Vasselot section of the park.
The body of a missing hiker was found on the Otter Trail in the Tsitsikamma section of the Garden Route National Park.
SANParks spokesperson JP Louw says the hiker was reported missing by his walking group when he failed to show up at an overnight cabin.
Louw says the family of the deceased has been notified.
“SANParks Rangers, along with the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), began a search at around 5.43pm yesterday despite adverse weather conditions, large swells and rivers coming down. By nightfall, there was no sign of the missing man. The search resumed at first light today with the support of SAPS and Police Search and Rescue teams. Unfortunately, the hiker was found dead.”
