Britain has said it will reduce the share of funds going to the royal family of the Crown Estates to 12% (from 25%) next year to reflect the rising profits the estate receives.
Every year the royals receive a “Sovereign Allowance” to cover the costs of managing their households and for official travel expenses, which is based on surplus income from the Crown Estate, a property portfolio belonging to the monarchy but which is independently managed with the profits going to the Treasury.
Among the changes, the royal household’s budget will be 24 million pounds (About R55 billion) lower next year and 130 million lower in both 2025 and 2026.
