    Homeowners and potential home owners can finally have an idea of how safe their area maybe following Police Minister Bheki Cele release of the country’s crime stats.

    HOW SAFE ARE HOMES IN SOUTH AFRICA?

    In just the three month period between April and June 2023, 36 808 houses were broken into across the country, making it 408 homes daily.

    Gauteng recorded the highest number of home burglary’s in the country with 8057, a 6,1% decrease compared to the same period last year, where 8584 homes reported break ins.

    Following further behind is the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal with 6445 and 6105 cases reported.

    KZN was also the only province to show an increase in cases.

    PROVINCES WITH THE LEAST NUMBER OF BURGLARIES

    The Northern Cape is the safest province for home owners as only 1369 houses were broken into – just 15 house per day, with the 90 days reported on.

    The Dessert coastal province is the only one to have under 2000 cases as the Free State and Mpumalanga each recorded just over 2500 cases.

    RESIDENTIAL AREAS WITH HIGHEST BURGLARY CASES

    Mankweng also known as Turfloop in Limpopo leads the country with the highest number of burglary’s within the reporting window. The area i the Capricorn District recorded 245 cases with 90 days.

    Plessislaer police station in Pietermaritzburg and Vanderbijlpark in the Vaal dipped under 200 cases as they reported to have 196 and 173 cases.
