South Africa just got a boost in tackling its power crisis.
CHINA DONATES 450 GENERATORS TO ADDRESS SA POWER CRISIS
China generously sent over 450 gasoline generators to help ease the severe power cuts the country‘s been facing.
The generators have touched down in South Africa, with Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa doing the honors of receiving it.
According to the presidency, these generators are like the power heroes that’ll swoop in as backups, lessening the impact of load shedding on crucial services in places like clinics, schools, and courts. Super useful, right?
THE GENERATORS WILL BE USE AT PLACES LIKCE CLINICS, SCHOOLS AND COURTS
“The generators will be used as a backup to alleviate the impacts of load shedding in the delivery of services in clinics, schools, and courts while government continues to implement the Energy Action Plan to ultimately end load shedding and create sustainable energy security,” the Presidency said in a statement.
This whole thing is part of a cool collaboration between China and South Africa, as agreed during the BRICS summit in Johannesburg back in August.
China promised the generators and emergency equipment worth 167 million rand ($8.9 million) and a development grant of 500 million rand.
CHINA PROMISED THE GENERATORS AND EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT WORTH 167 MILLION RAND
Earlier this year, during an Official State Visit to South Africa led by Chinese President Xi Jinping, President Cyril Ramaphosa thanked the Asian nation for its support.
“South Africa deeply appreciates China’s support in addressing our current energy challenges. This includes the donation of emergency power equipment worth R167 million and a grant of approximately R500 million as development assistance.
“Energy cooperation with China is a recent development that we look to deepen, particularly in line with our respective commitments to low-carbon, climate-resilient development,”
the President said.
South Africa has been wrestling with severe load shedding for those not in the know, causing a ton of frustration.
