WESTERN CAPE. – The City of Cape Town became involved in the search for Joslin Smith from Saldanha Bay today.
Alderman JP Smith says André Truter, the executive mayor of Saldanha Bay, has made a formal request to the city for help to help search for Joslin. Several teams, including divers and dog handlers, left with their necessary equipment. They are under the command of Robbie Robberts, the City of Cape Town’s director in the directorate of safety and security, who coordinates the search on land, sea and air.
Smith says the police, who are already doing excellent investigative work, are hampered by the posting of videos and social media posts. According to him, this type of action by those with “their own agenda” has already brought tension in the community and led to public violence.

<This is a developing story and the post will be updated as needed>
Yesterday our municipality answered a formal request by Executive Mayor of Saldanha Bay, Andre Truter, to assist in the search for missing Joshlin Smith.
Early this morning multiple teams departed from our municipality and have arrived at Saldanah Bay SAPS for a briefing.
Commissioner Robbie Robberts is coordinating our efforts on land, sea and air. We have sent divers from our Fire & Rescue, skippers from our Law Enforcement Marine Unit, our man-tracking K9 dogs, investigators from our SSIMS and SSIMS, as well as several 4×4 vehicles, rubber ducks and jet skis, and the drone team.
Our operation is about to get underway.
13h15: Our members have joined up with SAPS and have received a full briefing on progress so far.
We have set up a joint command center and along with SAPS, we are ready to make progress.
Our drone teams are airborne, our water search has begun, investigators are following up on info, and are K9’s are about to begin with trailing.
SAPS Investigative teams have already done excellent work, but their progress has been severely hampered by the destructive videos and social media posts, done by political figures and those seeking online relevance. This has already caused much tension in the community, already leading to public violence and incidents of vigilantism.
Please do not share videos or posts relating to the investigation, or allow persons to share unverified facts.
