Standerton SAPS has opened a case of murder and inquest after a couple were found with gunshot wounds in their home. Police believe a domestic dispute led to the murder and subsequent suicide.
What is believed to be a family misunderstanding between husband and wife has claimed their lives at the Kromdraai farm in Standerton.
According to information, the 42-year-old man who works and lives on the Kromdraai farm invited his 34-year-old wife who was staying at Ebenezer Farm to his residence during the night of Sunday, April 30, 2023.
Monday, May 1, 2023, when the family could not be reached on their cell phones, the family began searching for them.
Information was received that gunshot sounds were heard from the couple’s location.
Upon further investigation, the couple was found lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen floor at 08am.
A firearm containing fifteen live rounds and three empty cartridge caps was also found next to the couple.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services while the man was rushed to hospital and he also succumbed to his injuries at 02am this morning.
Police have since registered the murder case as well as inquests for further investigation.
Police cannot rule out possibilities that the husband may have shot his wife and turned the gun on himself, but this will be revealed by the outcome of the investigation.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, has warned community members who may have domestic problems to speak out so that arrangements for professional advisers can be arranged.
