Photovoltaic power generation, as a clean energy that has attracted worldwide attention, plays an important role in the wave of global energy transformation. However, we face a huge challenge: the world’s land area is limited, and desert regions occupy a quarter of it. This makes it all the more important to find viable solutions for human energy supply.
In order to overcome this problem, scientists from all over the world have started thinking and trying to find a way to build photovoltaic power stations in desert areas to supply clean energy. However, current technology and cost are still a great challenge, limiting the construction and maintenance of photovoltaic power plants.
Once the United States and some European countries tried to build a super-large photovoltaic power station in the Sahara Desert. However, these plans ultimately failed due to factors such as the extremely harsh environmental conditions in the desert area and high construction and operating costs.
Now, Beijing, China, has announced a striking plan. They plan to invest 870 million US dollars to build a huge photovoltaic power generation base in the desert area in the next 3 years. The total installed capacity of the photovoltaic power generation base is expected to reach 450 million kilowatts.
Overcoming the challenges of building photovoltaic power plants in the desert remains difficult with the technology at our disposal. However, can China successfully complete this ambitious project and become a global leader in clean energy?
