Today, the eight members of the VIP Protection Services involved in the assault of three individuals on the N1 between Johannesburg and Pretoria will be arrested and placed in custody. The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) will carry out the arrest following authorisation from the Director of Public Prosecutions and transfer the officers to sandton police station, located north of Johannesburg. These heavily armed officers were part of Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s security team and were suspended after the IPID’s investigation. Tomorrow they will appear before the Randburg Magistrate’s Court, as confirmed by IPID spokesperson Robbie Raburabu.
