JOHANNESBURG – Eskom has suffered yet another loss of generation units, plunging the country into stage two load shedding.

This follows reassurance last week that the lights would stay on for longer.

While the power utility was able to keep load shedding at bay over the weekend, Eskom said the grid was facing peak pressure.

The power cuts took effect at 18:25pm on Wednesday evening and are expected to remain in effect until 5am on Thursday morning.

Eskom spokesperson Daphne Mokwena: “We continue to prioritise planned maintenance to strengthen system reliability ahead of the winter months while ensuring adherence to environmental and licensing conditions.”
