ESKOM UPDATE
●Eskom has warned South Africans to prepare for a full week of load shedding.
Stage 4 cuts will continue from noon on Sunday until 05:00 on Monday.
Thereafter, Stage 3 load shedding will be implemented from 05:00 until 16:00 on Monday, followed by Stage 4 from 16:00 until 05:00 on Tuesday.
The power utility said the pattern of implementing Stage 3 load shedding in the morning and Stage 4 load shedding in the evening will be repeated daily until Thursday, at least.
Respite is only expected over the weekend.
●”We were never at stage 8″
Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has told a media briefing that the country did not dip into stage 8 load shedding over the past few days. SA was in Stage 6 load shedding, he added.
While he said that he could not deny the experiences of residents of parts of Johannesburg who complained their power was off for far longer than should have been the case under Stage 6, this did not mean Stage 8 had been implemented.
He said that Johannesburg’s City Power needed to explain the length of outages in the areas it operates.
On its website, City Power states that Stage 6 load shedding is being implemented.
The minister added he expected load shedding to ease up in December due to a fall in demand from business and industry.
“There will be days when you will not have load shedding at all,” he said.
