Expelled” an excellent play not to be missed – a review by Dr Rapiti
The excellent play, “Expelled ” written by local playwright, Rosalind Rosalind, showing at the Baxter for a short run till 2nd March,2024 is an absolute winner and a must-see for every member of society, young and old, who frequently use social media. The play is superbly directed by Craig Freidmond and brilliantly acted by Charmaine Weir-Smith, Anthony Coleman and Nicolas Hattingh.
The play was riveting from the start to the end covering a wide range of issues: family discord, how an innocent post on social media can destroy a young person’s, ruin an entire family and a school’s image. The play reveals how easily an individual and his/her family can be so quickly ostracised and regarded as the pariahs of the world.
It also reveals the hypocrisy of school governing bodies, especially from the schools for the super-rich, which are more concerned about their reputation than to worry about damaging entire future career of their learner over an understandable boyish prank. The question that the mother lamentably asks in defence of her poor remorseful son is, “is no one guilty of an indiscretion growing up?” Go see this wonderful play and you decide.
