The family of missing German tourist, Nick Frischke (22), say they feel helpless as more 55 days have passed since Frischke disappeared, while he was trying to embark on a hike in the dangerous Karbonkelberg peak in Hout Bay, Cape Town.
Nick Frischke arrived in South Africa on Monday 6 February and checked in at a guesthouse in Pinelands, Cape Town. He was last seen a little more than a week later, on Wednesday, February 15, when he left his lodgings on foot at 10:00 in the morning.
Cape Town police have issued a missing person warning for Frischke, where it says he was last spotted at the V&A Waterfront. Further information revealed he was last seen in Hout Bay after an e-taxi driver dropped him off.
He wanted to hike the Karbonkelberg trail, the SAPS said.
Last known photo of Nick Fritschke. He appears to be walking on Bayview Road towards the trail for the Duiker Island and Hangberg Hiking Trail. The timestamp is 13:33.
A thorough investigation by a hiking app, AllTrails, which AfriNUUS acquired, and reported by TimesLIVE, suggests that Frischke may have lost his way, as his last arrival at the The Sentinel was indicated.

This apparent attempt to move/delete the recorded endpoint is performed in less than 20 seconds. This is where Nick disappeared or couldn’t find his way back without his cell phone, which was stolen.

The video below also discusses this more easily:
Five suspects have been arrested since his arrest and that they were found in possession of his personal belongings.
Igshaan Fisher, Jason Abrahams, Vanroy Petersen, Carlo Guenantin and Melvin Guenantin were arrested on March 6 in connection with robbery with aggravating circumstances, and charged after items belonging to the missing Frischke were found in their possession, days after his disappearance.
However, one of the suspects mumbled in court that they “didn’t do it.”
Furthermore, the suspects found in possession of possessions from Frischke’s case have been postponed to May 4, meaning the family will have to wait another 23 days for more information if the suspects in the case reappear in court.
The suspects reportedly confessed to robbing and stabbing him while he was walking in the area. They face charges of robbery and are back in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court.
The men were found in possession of the tourist’s belongings, including his mobile phone, credit card and backpack. They claimed Frischke ran away after the robbery and has not been seen since.

The case was postponed to Wednesday, May 4. However, they dropped their bail application.
One of the defendants, Carlo Guenantin, was released on parole last year. He was convicted on a charge of attempted murder.
Frischke is currently a student from Döbern in Germany, who was last contacted by his family on Wednesday, February 15, before his mobile phone was turned off.
Back in Germany, hundreds of people marched through Brandenberg in Germany’s streets last year to draw attention to what happened to Frischke in South Africa. AfriNUUS reported more on this earlier.
Since his disappearance, there has been no sight of Frischke or his body, leaving his family in Germany distraught.
The chairman of the Hout Bay Community Police Forum (CPF), Anthony Chemaly, said in March that they were hopeful that further leads would come in.
Police declined to confirm more information about the incident.
Investigating officer Daluxolo Mhlauli did not respond to WhatsApp messages from AfriNUUS.
Anyone with information that can assist with information is urged to contact investigating officer Daluxolo Mhlauli on 076 609 0764, or contact the Stop Crime Number on 08600 10111.
