FARM ATTACK IN KROMDRAAI, COH: 10/02/2025

On 10 February 2025, at approximately 10H00, 4 or 5 b/ males forced their way into the main house on the Kromdraai Gold Mine. The suspects were all armed with pistols. They forced the owner to lock his dogs away in the bedroom. The owner and his worker were both tied up with shoelaces and beaten by the suspects.
The owner was mainly tortured with water and smothered with a plastic bag from one of his room’s dustbins. The suspects spoke various languages, including Sotho, Malawian (Chichewa), and Tswana. They also spoke English, but extremely poorly.
The suspects demanded gold, firearms and money, saying that the gold is running out and that they need to eat. They also demanded the owner’s bank card and PIN. The suspects locked the owner in the bathroom and put the worker in one of the bedrooms (not locked) next to the bathroom. The owner tried to escape once, but was unsuccessful.
Approximately four hours later, when no suspects were heard or seen, the worker wore down the shoelaces on the corner of the bedroom wall, binding his wrists, and freed the owner. The victims could not phone anyone as their phones were stolen. Only after getting a phone from the worker’s quarters nearby did they call for assistance.
SAPS arrived, and a case was opened. Forensics also arrived afterwards to collect DNA samples from touched objects in the house. The suspects mostly stole food, as well as phones, binoculars, eyeglasses, and a gas bottle.
A lot of what was said by the suspects heavily implies that they were, in fact, Zama Zamas. All but one suspect had their faces covered. It is unclear at this point what all was stolen.

Conserv made contact with the victim (non-client) to see how we can assist. Please be aware and report any suspicious activity to our office.
