FARM ATTACKS AND – MURDERS IN SOUTH AFRICA January 2024

Coen Van der Walt (67)

The alleged perpetrator in the Coen Van der Walt murder case was apprehended shortly after the murder.

Attacks

Central Transvaal

January 3, 2024 – Cameldrift West
An unknown number of residents in a house were held at gunpoint while the perpetrators robbed them of cash and mobile phones. Perpetrators were able to escape from the CPF.

January 6, 2024 – Kameeldrift West
Pieter and Stephanie Venter, both 34, and their 13-year-old son were attacked after perpetrators broke down the security gate. All three suffered serious stab wounds and were hospitalized. Several electronic devices and clothing were stolen.

Western Transvaal

January 10, 2024: British area
A woman is attacked on a farm after which she fled to her bedroom, received a firearm and shot two of her attackers. The third attacker fled. The police and security company arrived shortly after. Where, as in other areas, the SAPS does not respond as quickly, it is clear that the SAPS in the NW province is still diligent in following up on matters and supporting the community as it should. The Blue line sometimes becomes very thin and in many cases completely blurry or does not exist

Free state

January 22, 2024 – Heilbron
A perpetrator broke through a window and attempted to clean glass with a panga. Farm guard was activated and one responder was lightly injured. Perpetrators were handed over to the SAPS. It also serves as a warning not to act when one is alone on the scene.

Eastern Cape 1
2 Victims Affected

January 6, 2024 – Uitenhage
An elderly couple (85M and unknown F) were attacked with a knobkierie by a single offender who demanded money. Finding nothing, the attacker fled and help was called. They were treated for minor wounds at the scene while a K9 unit searched for the attacker

Western Cape 1
4 Victims Were Affected

January 16, 2024 – Hansmoeskraal, George
The attack occurred at about 1:30 in the morning when
Victim 1 (63F) woke up to being assaulted with a crowbar.
Victim 2 (63M) Man woke up during attack on his wife and was assaulted with the same crowbar and also stabbed repeatedly.
Victim 3 (85F) was dragged from her bed, thrown to the floor and repeatedly kicked and assaulted with a crowbar. She also broke her hip in the fall.
Victim 4 (88M) was a visitor from overseas. He was taken last and was repeatedly assaulted on his face and arms. After the attack, all four victims were restrained in the master bedroom while the culprits took their time searching the house for money and valuables. They fled with a VW Amarok pickup truck

Eastern Transvaal 1

January 7, 2024 – Makuba Avenue Plantation, Lydenburg
The foreman and other personnel returning from leave are surprised by 4 attackers. The foreman returned fire and was wounded in the leg, resulting in a break. It is assumed that the foreman hit one of the attackers and this caused them to flee. The foreman was hospitalized and the fleeing attackers were wanted by a K9 unit

38 Borane cattle were stolen
