Western Transvaal – A woman who was home alone was murdered on a farm outside Swartruggens on Tuesday. Her husband, 70, was kidnapped by suspects but managed to escape.
Lt Col Amanda Funani said the preliminary report indicates four suspects entered the main house and killed the woman. Upon the arrival of her husband on the farm, he was overrun and taken to the main house. The house was ransacked and household items were loaded onto two vans. The man was forced into one of the vans and drove away with.
Household items were taken to a female suspect’s (34) schack in an informal settlement outside Swartruggens, according to Funani. The man managed to jump out of the moving vehicle. He fled and asked for help from nearby farmers. Police were notified of the incident.
The suspicious woman was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday, after some of the suspected stolen items were found in her possession. She is due to appear in the Swartruggens Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
Police are looking for four more attackers.
