GRAAFF-REINET NEWS – A farmer, 41, from Aberdeen, was arrested on his farm on Monday evening 3 July by a team of detectives from Graaff-Reinet for his alleged involvement in several serious criminal cases such as human trafficking (five charges), rape (five counts) assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, intimidation and child labour.
According to wo. Majola Nkohli, spokesperson for police in the Eastern Cape, has made a breakthrough of a task team of the Domestic Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Graaff Reinet after their extensive investigative work uncovered a number of human trafficking and rape cases, stemming from a case of rape that opened in February 2023.
The investigation led to the arrest of the man, who is linked to at least five cases of human trafficking and rape between 2020 and 2023 in the Eastern Cape and other provinces.
The suspect is expected to appear briefly in the Graaff-Reinet Magistrate’s Court today 5 July and then again possibly tomorrow in Aberdeen.
The man’s identity is known to the Advertiser, but since some of the charges relate to alleged sexual offences, he may only be identified when he has pleaded.
