A Fidelity Security Guard has been shot dead following an attempted cash-in-transit heist at the KFC on Commercial Road in Gqeberha.
A spokesperson for the Hawks Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana says shortly before 10 am, guards were at the KFC to collect cash when unknown armed suspects ambushed them.
He said a shootout ensued where one of the guards succumbed to a bullet wound as well as a suspect.
Mhlakuvana says they managed to arrest one suspect at the scene, but his accomplices fled and are still at large.
No guns or money were stolen from the scene.
The names of the victims have not yet been released.
