In a significant crackdown on fraudulent activities within theĀ Meyerton licensing centreĀ in Midvaal. Gauteng, seven suspects, including licensing officials and driving licence applicants, were apprehended by the Road Traffic Management Corporationā€™s (RTMC) national traffic anti-corruption unit and the Commercial Crimes Unit of the South African Police Service.

The operation has exposed a web of deceit and corruption that has plagued the center.

HOW MUCH CASH WAS DISCOVERED IN ONE OF THE OFFICIALS?

During the arrests, one of the officials was discovered in possession of more than R30,000 in cash, believed to be ill-gotten gains from the suspected criminal activities.

This shocking revelation underscores the extent of the malpractice.

Advocate Msibi, the CEO of RTMC, was present at the scene and did not mince words when he pointed out the avarice of the officials as the root cause of the rampant corruption at the licensing center.

ā€œAllegations suggest that these officials illicitly issued heavy-duty driving licenses to applicants who never underwent the required tests. Additionally, they purportedly colluded with driving school operators to use intermediaries for writing learner license tests on behalf of the applicants,ā€ read the statement.

STERN WARNING TO THOSE ENGAGING IN CORRUPTION

This operation is just the beginning, with investigations ongoing, and more arrests anticipated. The bust serves as a stern warning to those engaging in corrupt activities within the licensing sector. Signaling that their illicit actions will not go unpunished.

The South African authorities are taking a resolute stance against corruption. They are working diligently to maintain the integrity of their licensing systems.
