Goodbye load-shedding breaks — Eskom ramps up power cuts
Eskom is bringing an end to daytime load-shedding breaks and increasing evening load-shedding by one stage.
The change in schedule comes after the power utility lost three generating units and experienced delays in returning another three generating units to service.
Eskom said that generating capacity due to unplanned outages stood at 15,611MW, while a further 5,487MW was unavailable due to planned maintenance.
Instead of stage 2 load-shedding from 16:00 on Tuesday until 05:00 on Wednesday, Eskom will now implement stage 3 load-shedding.
The power utility is forecasting evening peak demand to reach 26,700MW.
From 05:00 on Wednesday, stage 2 load-shedding will be implemented until 16:00.
“This alternating pattern of stage 2 load-shedding from 05:00 until 16:00 and stage 3 load-shedding from 16:00 until 05:00 will be repeated daily until further notice,” Eskom said.
“Eskom will closely monitor the power system and provide an update should any significant changes occur.
Eskom expects that 2,190MW of generating capacity will be returned to service by Thursday.
