Trouble at Al-Aqsa: Israeli police clash with Palestinian protesters. Israeli forces raided Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem’s Old City early on Wednesday and attacked Palestinian worshippers, Palestinian media reported, raising fears of wider tension as Islamic and Jewish holidays overlap. Tension has already been high in east Jerusalem and the West Bank for months, and fears of further violence were fuelled by the convergence of the Muslim holy fast month and the Passover. Such confrontations at the contested holy compound, the third holiest shrine in Islam that is also the most sacred site in Judaism and referred to as the Temple Mount, have sparked deadly cross-border wars between Israel and Gaza’s Hamas rulers in the past, the last was in 2021. Videos on social media purportedly showed Israeli police officers beating Palestinians with batons and rifle butts at the mosque in the contested hilltop site revered by both Muslims and Jews.

Israeli police clashed with dozens of Palestinians inside Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the early hours of Wednesday, Israeli and Palestinian media reported. Police said the move to enter the mosque was in response to what they described as rioting at the complex.Following the clashes, rockets were fired at Israel from the Gaza Strip. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said a total of nine rockets were fired early on Wednesday, four of which were intercepted by the aerial defense array, while another four landed “in open areas.”
The Israeli Air Force said it responded to the rocket attack by shelling several targets in Gaza, among which a military compound in the north of the coastal area and a military post along the border with Israel.

Israeli police have clashed with Palestinians at al-Aqsa mosque in occupied East Jerusalem.Police said 350 people were arrested in a pre-dawn raid after what they called “agitators” with fireworks, sticks, and stones shut themselves inside.
Palestinians said stun grenades and rubber bullets were used to clear out the group and that 14 people were hurt.
Militants in the Gaza Strip later fired nine rockets at Israel and its military carried out air strikes in response.
The latest violence comes just ahead of an overlap between the Islamic holy month of Ramadan and the Jewish Passover holiday.
