IW.771.VIKING BOER–ISRAEL WATCH – Fighting in Rafah Continues

Israel-Hamas war: Fighting in Rafah continues ahead of looming invasion | LiveNOW from FOX

    May 11, 2024
Fighting between Israeli military and Hamas militants continues near the Gaza city of Rafah.

On Thursday, smoke could be seen rising above a Kuwaiti hospital in Rafah. On Friday, flares were seen illuminating the night sky nearby.

Israel’s move into Rafah has been short of the full-scale invasion that it has planned. The United States is deeply opposed to a major offensive and is stepping up pressure by threatening to withhold arms to Israel.

The U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees, known as UNRWA, said more than 110,000 people have fled Rafah. Families who have already moved multiple times during the war packed up to go again. One woman held a cat in her arms as she sat in the back of a truck piled with her family’s belongings about to head out.

LiveNOW’s Austin Westfall spoke about the Rafah operation with former Marine Corps intelligence officer Hal Kempfer.

Israel vs Hamas | Gaza Conflict | Thousands Flee Rafah As Israel Ramps Up Bombardments | G18V

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees says 80,000 people have left Rafah after Israel ordered immediate evacuation of the eastern part of the city. The numbers are expected to rise, with deep concern among aid officials that the newly displaced people will end up in makeshift encampments without any services, living in the rubble of their former homes without ‘basic essentials necessary for life’. The latest round of indirect negotiations in Cairo to halt hostilities ended and Israel will proceed with its operation in Rafah and other parts of the Gaza Strip as planned.

Israel-Hamas war: Sinwar not in Rafah, intel reveals, prior to Israeli operation | LiveNOW from FOX

    May 11, 2024
Yahya Sinwar, Gaza’s leader of Hamas, is no longer hiding out in Rafah, according to new intel provided by Israeli military officials to publications including “The Times of Israel” and Hebrew media. The revelation comes as Israel prepares for a full-scale operation into Gaza’s southern-most city.

The Biden administration said there is “reasonable” evidence to conclude that Israel may have violated international law amid its military operation and war in Gaza, but that it did not have complete information to verify whether US weapons were used.

The information was discussed in a 46-page report by the US State Department delivered to Congress on Friday. It stopped short of any definitive assessment and stated that due to the chaos of the war, many details remained unclear.

The report was made public just days after President Biden again voiced his opposition to Israel’s planned operation in Rafah and said the US would not provide any weapons used in that offensive.

During an interview with CNN, Biden explained that the US is still committed to Israel’s defense and would supply Iron Dome rocket interceptors and other defensive arms.

Javed Ali at the University of Michigan joined LiveNOW from FOX’s Josh Breslow to discuss the report and the latest developments out of the Middle East between Israel, Hamas and Hezbollah.
