Gauteng police have arrested seven suspects in connection with the murder of veteran journalist and author Jeremy Gordin, who was killed in his Parkview home last month.
SEVEN ARRESTED FOR JEREMY GORDIN’S MURDER
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said Johannesburg detectives nabbed seven suspects in connection with the murder through a partnership with private security companies.
The first of the suspects, who are aged between 33 and 42, was arrested on Tuesday, 12 April, while driving Gordin’s vehicle in Auckland Park. Further probing led to the arrest of six more suspects.
“All suspects are foreign nationals and are expected to appear before a Johannesburg magistrate soon on charges of murder, house robbery, possession of suspected stolen property and possession of an unlicensed firearm,” said Nevhuvhulwi.
As previously reported, a family member found Gordin’s body. His home was locked from the outside.
“A preliminary investigation was conducted, and it was discovered that the television and the deceased’s motor vehicle were stolen. No arrests have been made, and a manhunt for the suspect(s) is underway,” said the police in its initial statement.
Gordin, born in 1952, was a former associate editor of the Sunday Independent and a former editor of the Daily Sun. He is also known for his best-selling biography of former president Jacob Zuma titled ‘Zuma: A Biography’.
