A 40-year-old man from Kariega is lucky to be alive following a harrowing ordeal on Wednesday in Perseverance.
Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says the complainant stopped at a stop sign whilst travelling on the M19 towards Kariega in the morning when he noticed two white bakkies behind him.
She says it is alleged that the vehicles blocked him on both sides when two suspects got out of the passenger sides with guns.
Janse van Rensburg says the complainant tried to drive off and collided with the bakkie blocking him to his left, before he managed to flee the scene.
The suspects fired several shots in his direction but he sustained no injuries.
The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage and a case of attempted murder is under investigation.
