A 32-year-old man beaten unconscious in a parking lot in Klerksdorp has died.
Hilton Pretorius sustained a brain injury following the incident at a parking lot at a shopping mall in Doornkruin earlier this month.
The assault was captured on video and soon went viral on social media.
In the video, a 44-year-old man is seen trying to calm the situation before he is knocked unconscious.
The older victim was treated for a concussion and a shoulder injury.
The alleged culprit has since been arrested and is currently out on bail of R2,000.
A police spokesperson, Colonel Adele Myburgh says 33-year-old Wernich Botha will now face a charge of murder and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.
Botha will be back in court on the 19th of October.
Police condemned the incident and urged the public to stop sharing the viral video as the clips could hamper the investigations.
The incident was also condemned by the Provincial Commissioner of the North West Province, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena.
