Parliament has appointed the Deputy Speaker in the National Assembly, Lechesa Tsenoli to take over from Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula who is facing allegations of corruption.
Mapisa-Nqakula has taken special leave to clear her name, after being accused of receiving bribes from an army contractor during her time as the minister of defense.
She has since filed for a court interdict against her possible arrest.
This, after the National Prosecuting Authority’s Investigating Directorate raided her Johannesburg home last week.
Parliament spokesperson, Moloto Mothapo said Tsenoli would perform all Speaker responsibilities and assured the public that the work of the National Assembly remained unaffected.
