Life support for boy shot in head turned off

Nine-year-old Tiano Anthony succumbed to his wounds on Monday night at the Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Cape Town. Life support was turned off and the boy died.

Anthony was hit in the head by a bullet in a reportedly accidental shooting by a man allegedly a gang member. The man is believed to have cleared his gun when a shot went off.
The family confirmed that the suspect arrested for his murder lived with them. “We only found out when the police arrested him that he was the one who did it. We believe it could have been an accident that could have been avoided,” said Tiano’s aunt, Michelle Malgas.

According to Malgas, the family did not want the machine turned off, but medical staff told them there was nothing they could do to save his life. “We didn’t want them to turn the machine off because we believed he would come through because he’s a fighter. ” But unfortunately there was no chance for him to bring it to life,” she said. Malgas added that the machine had already been switched off when they reached the hospital.
