Man shot dead after stopping on highway by Andre Smit

Central Transvaal – A man lost his life at around 21:00 on Friday night after stopping about 500 metres from the Carousel toll plaza on the N1 highway, north of Pretoria.

Live Traffic says two men stopped to urinate on the side of the road when they were overrun from the bushes by four armed suspects. One of the men was shot dead, after which the suspects fled with robbed mobile phones.

Police and Max Tactical Security Services rushed them to the crime scene.

Live Traffic says a night vision drone was used in an attempt to locate the suspects, but was unsuccessful.

Warnings about roads in and around the Central Transvaal have been issued for some time.

Live Traffic once again warns motorists to exercise extreme caution on these roads and avoid stopping on the N1 highway especially in the evenings. Any suspicious activity must be reported to authorities without delay.

Lawlessness has been fought on the roads in and around Pretoria for months. Several persons lost all their lives, while others were lucky enough to only sustain damage to vehicles.
