Myeni’s corruption trial postponed due to health issues-sound familiar??

The corruption trial of the former South African Airways board chairperson Dudu Myeni faced a setback as the Richards Bay Magistrates’ Court postponed proceedings to 10 May, to facilitate a transfer to the Johannesburg High Court.

Myeni’s absence, attributed to hospitalisation, prompted the delay, as did the nonattendance of Trevor Mathenjwa’s attorney, citing health issues.

    MYENI’S TRIAL POSTPONED

“The matter was postponed in Myeni’s absence, as it was indicated by her attorney that she was hospitalised. The attorney of Trevor Mathenjwa, who is accused number 2 in this matter, was also absent due to ill health,” said Henry Mamothame, spokesperson for the Investigating Directorate.

Myeni and Mathenjwa stand accused of corruption and fraud, allegedly involving R300 000 linked to BOSASA. The state alleges this sum was exchanged as gratification from BOSASA and its subsidiary, Sondolo IT.

At the heart of the accusations is Myeni’s purported failure to disclose her interests in accordance with the South African Airways (SAA) Conflict of Interest Policy during her tenure as SAA board chairperson.

ALLEGED GRATIFICATION RECEIVED FROM BOSASA SUBSIDIARY LINKED TO FORMER DIRECTOR

Specifically, she is accused of receiving gratification from BOSASA’s subsidiary, Sondolo IT, allegedly facilitated by former director Trevor Mathenjwa.

The charges extend to alleged security upgrades valued at approximately R200 000 undertaken at Myeni’s Richards Bay property between May 2014 and March 2015.

Additionally, Myeni allegedly benefited from hotel accommodations and travel expenses exceeding R107 000. These were funded by BOSASA through Blake Travels during the same period.

Both defendants are currently out on R10 000 bail. They are expected to reappear in court when proceedings resume in May.
