A ninth person has been arrested in connection with the Thabo Bester escape saga.
The latest suspect is a 31-year-old Zimbabwean man, arrested in Johannesburg on Sunday morning.
Police Spokesperson Athlenda Matha says he is accused of assisting Bester to escape from lawful custody and will likely face additional charges.
She says he will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Police say more arrests cannot be ruled out.
The convicted rapist and killer Thabo Bester is under 24-hour surveillance at the C-Max section of the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre in Pretoria.
Bester faked his death at the Mangaung Correctional Centre last year and walked out of prison.
His girlfriend, celebrity Dr Nandi Magudamana is also currently in custody, waiting for a ruling from the High Court on her appeal to have her arrest in Tanzania declared unlawful.
The couple fled to the country after the story of Bester’s escape made international news.
