Don’t be fooled by tenuous truces. Nearly two weeks on
in Sudan, with no clear winner in sight, the personal power
play between rival generals shows all the signs that it
could spiral into an all-out civil war. Residents are desperately
trying to leave the capital Khartoum.
Tens of thousands have also fled the Darfur region
for neighboring Chad, as armed factions choose sides
while local rivalries and banditry flare up. How to stop
    the spiral?
    Who to stop it?

The conflict in Sudan is now in its third week.

The rival generals are playing the blame game, accusing
each other of targeting civilian neighborhoods, hospitals
and people trying to leave the country.
    Ceasefire after ceasefire has collapsed.
Analysts fear powerful regional players may be involved
behind the scenes, intentionally prolonging the violence.
Some have drawn parallels to the situation in neighboring Libya.
So, is Sudan heading the same way

No ceasefire in sight. Does it mean civil war?
Sudan caught since last Saturday in the crossfire of
    an argument between top brass.
Neither junta leader Abdel Fattah al-Buhran nor
his nominal number two Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo
seem ready to listen to outside mediation attempts.
The longer the death match continues, the greater
the risk that armed factions at home and abroad get
    drawn in.

Despite the ceasefire, fighting could be heard late on
Tuesday with gunfire and explosions reported after nightfall
in Omdurman, Khartoum’s sister city across the Nile River,
where the army used drones to target RSF positions, a
    Reuters news agency reporter said.
“The Secretary-General again warned that this could
spread beyond the borders of Sudan, making it clear
that there are seven countries that border Sudan, all
of them in recent years have either had unrest or conflict,” Bays said.
There was already a humanitarian crisis in the country
before the current fighting, Bays said, adding that
“the situation is so much worse now” amid the shaky ceasefire.

What role do outside players have in the war in Sudan?

    Apr 21, 2023 #Sudan #RSF #aljazeeraenglish
Fighting in Sudan between forces loyal to two generals
is threatening to turn into a prolonged conflict.

The violence follows weeks of power struggles between
army chief Abdel Fatah Al Burhan and his deputy
Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo known as Hemedti –
the commander of the Rapid Support Forces, or R-S-F.

Many of them fear this may be the beginning of a much wider conflict.

Outside forces are further complicating the situation,
with both sides receiving support from regional and global powers.

So, how will this conflict affect the future of Sudan?
