The South African diplomats extracted from Tel Aviv, Israel, will remain in South Africa for the duration of the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.
However, President Cyril Ramaphosa says all the necessary diplomatic support for South African citizens in Israel will still be available to them.
Ramaphosa announced this during a meeting with the South African Jewish Council of Delegates.
The SAJBD also wanted to ensure that the Israeli embassy in Pretoria will not be closed to enable the return of the Israeli ambassador to South Africa.
Among other things, Ramaphosa also emphasized the government’s condemnation of anti-Semitic behavior towards Jewish people in South Africa-including the boycott of Jewish businesses, as well as Islamophobia.
