SPRINGBOK CYBER NEWSLETTER
April 2025 Edition
The re-election of Donald J. Trump as President of the United States last November of course filled us full of great hope and excitement. Unfortunately, however, some – but by no means all – of his early actions have left us with slight misgivings.
The most worrying aspect seems to be the performance of his Vice President, J.D.Vance. The fact that Vance is both married to an Indian and a Roman Catholic convert never boded well of course, and is not what one normally expects from a GOP politician. Vance’s deranged pronouncement that the U.K. might be “the first truly Islamic country with nuclear weapons” since Labour took over was not only pig-ignorant but also highly offensive. Donald Trump’s first Veep during his first term was the nonentity Mike Pence, who of course “stabbed him in the back” following the disputed 2020 Presidential election. Donald Trump’s worse failing therefore seems to be his inability to pick a suitable running-mate!
Alas Donald Trump himself seems to have become influenced by some of Vance’s more lunatic anti-Western opinions. His territorial claim on Greenland – and even on Canada – is not only ridiculous but also highly damaging to Western interests. Greenland was discovered and first populated by the Vikings, and his been controlled by their Scandinavian successors – currently by Denmark – ever since. They have furthermore made a remarkably good job of it, ensuring that it has remained sparsely populated and in a pristine ecological condition. The idea of either Russian or Chinese forces marching over the Greenland ice-cap in order to invade the United States is too laughable for words! Canada of course has been a proud independent nation still honourably recognising the British monarch as Head of State for almost two hundred years, and has carved out a completely different culture and identity to the United States, and NEVER having been part of it. Even so Canada has constantly had good and friendly relations with its southern neighbour, especially during periods when the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) and the GOP were both in power. All that the floating of this unobtainable idea of annexing Canada has done is to make the election of the CPC under the leadership of the able and like-minded potential ally Pierre Poilievre, which only a few weeks ago seemed a certainty, now seem to be practically impossible!
But apart from these few crazy Vance-inspired ideas the initial actions of Donald Trump’s second administration have been admirable. He has given excellent support to Israel in their struggle against Islamic terrorism and has tried his best to end the fratricidal conflict in the Ukraine. Furthermore his recent imposition of trade tariffs, whereby Britain had the lowest possible rate levied whereas the wretched EU was hit with twice this charge, and Asian countries with all their uncompetitive practices were imposed with astronomically higher rates, means that the world is now going to become a far more Western-centric place.
Perhaps the most encouraging development of all, however, has been Donald Trump’s little reported remark that the United States should become an associate member of the Commonwealth. Even though there is currently no such level of membership the Patriotic Forum has in the past advocated similar associate status to Hong Kong (though for somewhat different reasons). The Commonwealth – or the British Commonwealth to give it its original name – has of late become top-heavy with free-loading third world nations, many having no historic connection with Britain whatsoever. In a speech by Philip Benwell of the Australian Constitutional Monarchy Association at a Swinton Circle (the predecessor of today’s Patriotic Forum) meeting a few years ago he advocated restructuring the organisation so that it consisted of only the Crown Commonwealth nations (i.e. only those who recognised the British Monarch as Head of State). We believe that this would be an excellent idea, and if it was to include other associated countries such as the United States to form a close trading and defensive alliance would create a global force for good. The days ahead could still inspire us!

—————————— —— SPRINGBOK CLUB NEWS
The Springbok Club staged a most enjoyable and memorable trip to see Tower Bridge and its engine room last month, ascending and descending the towers and being able to see spectacular views of the River Thames from its upper bridge with its glass floor. After this trip the Springbok Club party adjourned to a nearby hostelry for some fruitful discussions and a convivial end to the day.

On Saturday 26th April the Springbok Club will be holding stage three of its trilogy of events commemorating the life and achievements of Frederick Courtney Selous, the famed African explorer and big game hunter-turned-conservationist, after whom the Rhodesian Selous Scouts Regiment was named. This third phase will consist of a trip to the Natural History Museum where a memorial to Selous stands alongside many of the wildlife specimens which he brought back from central Africa. All those wishing to partake in this trip should assemble outside the main entrance to the Natural History Museum, Cromwell Road, South Kensington, London SW7 5BD, between 14.00 hrs and 14.30 hrs. After this trip the Springbok Club party will adjourn to a near-by hostelry where the third part of the PowerPoint presentation about Selous’s life and achievements will be shown.

On Saturday 24th May the Springbok Club will be holding a special event to celebrate Empire Day, at which two members will be giving report-back talks about their recent tours of the Antipodes. More precise details will be given in next month’s SCN. The Kent Branch of the Springbok Club is also hoping to hold a braai in the next few weeks.

Even though, as announced in last month’ SCN, the Patriotic Forum has decided to delay its next planned meeting to be addressed by a leading member of ReformUK until after the forthcoming round of local elections have been completed and the unfortunate spat within the party has been resolved, the organisation will be staging an informal trip to see the annual Rochester Sweeps Festival on Sunday 4th May. To join the Patriotic Forum’s celebration of this traditional British cultural festival rendezvous in or around “The King’s Head”, 58 High Street, Rochester, Kent, ME1 1LD (nearest rail station: Rochester) between 12.30 hrs and 13.30 hrs.

—————————— —— MESSAGE FROM THE ANIMAL SURVIVAL INTERNATIONAL
We have recently received the following message from the Animal Survival International organisation which raises great concern. It reads as follows :-
“A tiger farm that has kept big cats cruelly caged in appalling conditions in Thailand has been shut down by the authorities. Now, the big cats who live there are in urgent need of rescue. If we do not help get them to safety as soon as possible, a caged zoo existence is likely to be their fate.
“We have a plan, and critically endangered tigers need your support. Abused and neglected in Asia: 29 caged tigers and critically endangered Indo-Chinese leopards have a once-in-a-lifetime chance at freedom.
“Thailand is notorious for keeping wild animals captive. Big cats are bred to be cruel tourist attractions, or for their body parts which are used in ‘traditional Chinese medicines.’ Whiskers are worn as ‘protective’ charms and the animals’ penises are peddled as ‘sexual tonics.’ Skins are trophies, worn as ostentatious shows of wealth.
“The cycle of tiger abuse is bitterly cruel. Cubs are snatched from their mothers as infants and hand-reared so they can be habituated for human interactions and photo ops. They are caged, their natural behaviours inhibited, and their breeding patterns interrupted, all so that tourists can take selfies with them. Or, they are bred in horrendously cruel conditions to be slaughtered for their body parts.
“Today – and only with your help – we have the opportunity to help save 29 of these precious sentient beings from a death sentence behind bars.
“Operations at the captive facility in northern Thailand have already been ordered to stop. Very soon, it will be shut down altogether. At that point, any animals who have not been relocated will be turned over to the government – who will likely send them to zoos. We must stop that from happening!
“Our partner, the Wildlife Friends Foundation Trust (WFFT), has been given permission to take in 29 of the facility’s 53 captive animals: 25 tigers and 4 critically endangered Indo-Chinese leopards. They hope to get approval for more.
“The WFFT sanctuary has spacious, stimulating enclosures and a team of wildlife experts. They allow no public interaction or experiences. Here, the animals will have the best chance at a new life, and the closest possible experience to being free.
“For every £6,575 we raise, we can save a big cat and get it to freedom.
“For each big cat rescued, we need to help build a spacious enclosure, pay for the relocation, and commit to its lifelong care – the gut-wrenching reality is that tigers and leopards rescued from captivity will never be able to live in the wild.
“We’ve asked you before to help us save wild animals from the brutalities of zoos and breeding facilities, and you have helped save and change many big-cat lives. Today we are asking you once more to show these precious creatures the human kindness and compassion they have never experienced before. Can we count on you today?
“We cannot save their lives without your support right now.
“This is a rare and enormous opportunity. Every life is precious, and these animals deserve a chance at happiness and freedom. With your support, they can finally run around on natural ground, claw at trees, swim in lakes, and socialize with other big cats.
“We know we can help give these tigers and leopards a good life, but we cannot do it without your help.

—————————— —— THE DECLINE OF WELSH RUGBY
Ever since the rules of the various codes of Football were codified during the latter part of the 19th Century the most dominant country in the British Isles at Rugby Union Football has almost constantly been Wales. The zenith of this dominance came during the late 1960s and 1970s when the Welsh national Rugby Union team seemed almost unbeatable. In more recent years, however, Welsh Rugby Football seems to have gone into a slow but steady decline, reaching a nadir during the present era, with the Welsh national side now having recorded a record 17 consecutive defeats in international matches and finishing bottom of the Six Nations Competition for two seasons running – and finishing in penultimate position in the two preceding seasons, only finishing above lowly Italy!
But why has this astonishing decline come about? Many have suggested, and we tend to agree with this explanation, that this has been because of the eradication of the South Wales coal mining industry. The South Wales coalfield was the largest in the country and sustained the highest population – and furthermore this was an area where Rugby Union Football predominated. The coal mining industry produced masses of physically fit men well suited for the rigours of Rugby Football, and many stories are told about managers of clubs short of players going along to the nearest pit and shouting down the mine shaft for them to send up a prop forward! For the sake of Welsh Rugby Football the South Wales coalfield should be resuscitated – though this is not the only reason why this is desirable!

Ron Sole ran a well established and highly professional security guard business in the Berea area of Durban during the early 1980s, which we believe was simply called “Berea Security”. He was a well-disciplined businessman, but also had an engaging personality and was clearly a patriotic South African. It would be very interesting to learn what became of him.

HIGHLIGHTING THE PROBLEM
Sir,
Why can’t the public see that the Conservative, Labour, LibDem and other main parties have absolutely no intention of stopping or reducing immigration! If they had, they would have left the ECHR and scrapped the numerous treaties on immigration that they gleefully signed over the years.
It is evident that they are ALL obeying the diktats of the UN and other global agencies which demand “free movement of people” as one of the requirements for the “great reset” and one world government. The EU was a major player in this approach, (i.e. one government, one currency, free movement of people) and the UK under the Tory’s, Labour and LibDems were fully in favour of this policy!
I suggest that you highlight this much more often in your SCN.

PETER GEORGE FISHER
It was with extreme sorrow that we learnt of the recent death of the Springbok Club’s Honorary President, Peter George Fisher. Peter Fisher was not only a most esteemed and dedicated member of the Springbok Club, a loyal and genuine friend, a true Imperial patriot – but also an all-round outstanding human being.
Born at Croydon in October 1938, Peter George Fisher’s early years were therefore spent living through World War 2, with infant experiences of watching dog-fights between the RAF and the Luftwaffe – a memory which installed a lifelong quest for adventure in him! Although the wartime conditions meant that he didn’t excel at school, he successfully passed the entrance exam to become a Metropolitan Police cadet in 1955.
After a couple of years’ service with the Metropolitan Police he was called up for his National Service, which he completed in the RAF, initially serving as an airman in Fighter Command before being transferred to the RAF Police. On completion of his National Service (which to his disappointment did not include any overseas travel!) he returned to the Metropolitan Police, being stationed in north London, but after five years his quest for more excitement got the better of him and he resigned from the force in order to take up a position as an Assistant and then a Chief Security Officer at Butlin’s Holiday Camp in Bognor Regis.
It was whilst working at Butlins that he was approached to join a security company in Johannesburg, and thirsting for a life of adventure readily accepted, flying south to South Africa in 1968 to begin his Empire expeditions. Once in South Africa he rapidly advanced in the security sphere, progressing on to work for South African Breweries and De Beers. It was whilst working at De Beers that he managed to organise a “chance” meeting with Harry Oppenheimer, and cheekily asked him for a better position. Surprisingly this was forthcoming, and he was appointed as Security Officer at South African Associated Newspapers, the publishers of, inter alia, the notorious leftist Rand Daily Mail.
By this time Peter had fully fallen in love with his new country, its people and its society, and when he expressed these patriotic opinions in an off-guarded moment at a social function he found himself approached by an officer in the Bureau of State Security (BOSS) who asked him to work for them, reporting back on the activities of certain dissidents who worked for the Rand Daily Mail, an offer which he readily accepted. All went well for a while, but one day he was tipped-off that he his undercover work for BOSS had been discovered, and that it was therefore in his best interests to leave the country as soon as possible. Being reluctant to return to the UK after all his exciting life in an exhilerating Commonwealth country he therefore decided to move to Australia, settling in Brisbane and working for a security company there, before joining the Customs and Excise Department.
Although he enjoyed the Aussie way of life it wasn’t quite as exciting to him as the lifestyle which he had enjoyed in Southern Africa, so when another chance meeting with an underground representative of the Rhodesian Government came about it resulted in a job offer from the Rhodesian Prison Service. He again readily accepted this offer, taking up an appointment at Chikurubi Farm Prison in Matabeleland. He probably enjoyed his time in Rhodesia more than anywhere, but when during the late 1970s he realised that sell-out negotiations were taking place with the terrorists he decided that it was time to move once again. Being fearful that he might still be a “marked man” in South Africa he decided that it was time to return to the U.K., and spent the final 20 years of his working career employed in a security position with the British Civil Service.
Throughout all his adventurous life his basic British patriotism never wavered – or perhaps it is more accurate to describe it as Imperial patriotism. He became very politically active after his return to the U.K., becoming involved with his local Conservative Association and also joining some more patriotic pressure groups such as the Conservative Monday Club, the Swinton Circle (the predecessor of today’s Patriotic Forum) and the Constitutional Monarchy Association. He was by nature totally opposed to Britain’s membership of the EU, and was active with a number or organisations pressing for Brexit. He eventually settled at Petersfield in Hampshire where a magnificent statue to King William III (Prince William of Orange) stands, and each year he would make a point of watching and cheering the local members of the Orange Order as they made their annual parade through to town to this statue.
It was through his membership of the Swinton Circle that Peter Fisher first became aware of the Springbok Club, and soon realised that this was the organisation which he felt most affinity towards, as its neo-Imperialist ideals attuned so closely to his own adventures life in three of the great southern hemisphere Commonwealth countries. He rose to become Chairman of the organisation, and whilst holding this office in the 2000s and early 2010s the organisation grew and flourished, even staging a trip to Gibraltar in which he participated. Alas his failing health meant that it became increasingly difficult for him to travel to London on a regular basis, so reluctantly he had to relinquish this position. He became the obvious candidate to elect when it was decided to appoint an Honorary President of the organisation however, a position which he accepted with effervescent glee and pride! He spent the final years of his life supervising the upkeep of the gardens and grounds of his local parish church, St.Mary’s, Petersfield, and in recognition of his work in this regard received a high award in last year’s “Petersfield in Bloom” competition (as reported in the July 2024 Edition of the SCN).
Peter Fisher never married until late in life (he actually out-lived two wives), and as a result never had any children of his own. He was however held in very high esteem by his step-children, as well as by members of his own extended family. Our sincerest condolences are of course extended to all of them. All the time that our country can produce men like Peter Fisher then we have NOTHING to fear for the future!
