Police have arrested and detained a 25-year-old undocumented person and found him with unlicensed firearm after he overpowered a security guard and allegedly fatally shot and wounded him. One farmer has been hospitalized. The suspect was later shot during the exchange of fire with farmers and was wounded on the left leg and hospitalized.

It’s alleged that on Tuesday, 17 December 2024, at about 07:00, the 56-year-old security guard was activated to attend a complaint of trespassing at Marman Farm district Fouriesburg. It’s further alleged that he was found lying on the ground with a gunshot wound in the neck and a magazine with bullets and handcuffs next to him. It’s suspected that he was overpowered and disarmed by the suspect. Other farmers were activated to trace and pursue the suspect who allegedly fired shots in the direction of farmers who were trying to arrest and disarmed him. In the process, one of the farmers was hit by a bullet on the hip and rushed to Bethlehem Hospital.

Meanwhile, during the shootout between farmers and the suspect, he was shot and injured in the left leg and rushed to local hospital also in Bethlehem by Emergency Medical Service.

The suspect is detained on charges of murder, two of attempted murder, robbery of firearm, and possession of unlicensed firearm and as an undocumented person. He will be expected to appear before the Fouriesburg Magistrate court, soon pending his recovery.
