A man arrested in Ermelo is expected to appear in the East London Magistrates Court on Thursday for allegedly sending counterfeit money in a package to Mdantsane.
Spokesperson for the Hawks Captain Yolisa Mgolodela says 33-year-old Steven Mashele is the third suspect to be arrested for allegations of contravening the Prevention of Counterfeiting of Currency Act.
She says it is alleged that Mashele made use of the courier division of Pep Stores where he sent a package filled with counterfeit money, from Johannesburg to Mdantsane.
Captain Mgolodela says upon arrival, parcels were sorted and one got stuck in the conveyor belt tearing open the package.
She says police were called by the supervisor when he discovered counterfeit R200 notes worth R8 000.
Mashele will appear alongside his co-accused 56-year-old Monica Mkhiva who is out on warning.
Charges against a third suspect have been withdrawn pending further investigation.
