Two of the three men involved in an alleged racial attack at a holiday resort in December last year are expected back in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on Monday.
Jakobus Klaasen, 48, from Bloemfontein and 33-year-old Johan Nel, from Bothaville, might enter into a plea agreement with the State.
A third accused, 47-year-old Jan Stephanus van der Westhuizen from Brandfort had already pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a fine of R4 000 or one year in prison.
The trio was charged with assault and crimen injuria, while Klaasen, who is out on bail of R20 000 is facing an additional charge of attempted murder.
Video footage of the incident, which took place on Christmas Day, went viral on social media when the accused would not allow two black children to swim in the public pool.
On 25 December 2022, Klaasen, Nel and van der Westhuizen trended on social media for all the wrong reasons.
It’s alleged that they told the two victims, aged 18 and 13, that the swimming pool at Maselspoort was reserved for white people only.
When the police arrived, the groups had already dispersed.
At the time, there were several reports that one of the teenagers had pushed a toddler into the pool but the version was not supported by CCTV footage taken on the day.
In the footage, you can see a white man stopping the boys at the gate.
When one of the teenagers jumped into the pool, almost all the white people got out.
The story made international headlines.
