Suspects CAUGHT after gruesome farm murder of Free State couple-Andre Smit

Two suspects have been arrested over the horrific farm murder of an elderly couple just outside Bloemfontein.
On Friday (10/5) at about 14:00, the Free State Provincial Serious Violent Crime Unit received information on the whereabouts of the wanted suspects, accused of the gruesome murders of the elderly Morrison couple, police spokesman Sergeants said. Mahlomola Kareli.
“The team working with Welkom’s Tactical Response Unit went to a guest house in Bloemhof after which the two suspects, aged 39 and 26, were arrested at 23:00. The couple’s cell phones were in their possession.”
The bodies of Christo Morrison (76) and his wife, Christa (73), from the farm Rietfontein at Glen, about 25 km from Bloemfontein, were discovered on the farm on Saturday (4/5).
The neighbour had not been able to get hold of the couple on their mobile phones since Friday afternoon, after which police were contacted to investigate.
Kareli had earlier told OFM News that upon arrival at the farm, the police went to the farmhouse and saw that the doors of the farmhouse were open. Blood was also noticed on the floor and the house was cluttered.
A search for the suspects has been launched, as well as for the elderly couple, as their bodies were not found in the house. Their vehicle, a Toyota Land Cruiser, was found near Majwemasweu at Brandfort.
Christo’s body was found about 300 m from the farmhouse and the body of his wife, Christa, in a septic tank on the farm.
The two suspects will soon appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court for house robbery and the two murders.
Lt-Gen. Free State provincial commissioner Baile Motswenyane commended the excellent investigative work of the team and appreciated the many calls received with information from the community about the matter.
