    The dark age of medicine
    Dr E V Rapiti, Cape Town, April, 14, 2024
A sad era in medicine, prevails.

I have become totally despondent as a doctor with forty five years experience and as someone, who was unafraid of using unconventional methods in my approach to medicine, to witness the once revered and respected medical profession sink so low that it has become a crime to save thousands of people just by applying one’s ability to think critically or to be called a conspiracy theorist just for having a different opinion from one’s peers.

I am flabbergasted to see and hear academics use their credentials as a weapon to mislead the medical profession and society for a few ounces of silver. These high flying, highly paid and extremely corrupt academics destroyed robust medical debate and innovation by turning medicine into a total dictatorship, where only their views, no matter how unscientific, are the only views that must be accepted. These corrupt academics have become big pharma’s cheap salesmen, who have used their authority to turn medicine into a religion and destroyed the potential of great thinkers innovators in our midst to present new concepts and treatments for old problems.

I can only hope that medicine will regain the trust of society that it once had by providing a platform for people with controversial views, like it has always been in the past, when it was a true joy to be a member of this once noble profession and when medicine was a science and not some bigoted religion

Dr Rapiti is a family physician practicing in the highly densely populated and impoverished suburb of Mitchells Plain, Cape Town for over forty two years. He has acquired great experience treating Covid and pioneered clinical tools for the early detection of Covid pneumonia with great success using minimal investigations.
