“There’s light and there’s dark and I’ve seen it,” said Rudi Claase who was dead

Suzette Claase’s full social media post from two days ago and how he is doing now can be read below:

It was a big surprise to walk into the hospital yesterday to find that Rudi had been taken off the ventilator. I spoke to him this morning, he is in a lot of pain but the Doctors are exceptional and want to get him started as soon as possible. Which comes to mind of the day.

What I appreciated is that the team of specialists who look after Rudi actually care. They take time to listen, they are honest and we are also aware of the risks we face in the next few days…. What could go wrong and how they plan to deal with it if it does.

It also surprised me how many medical professionals have spoken to us about God’s will.

In the last few months, Rudi and I have reevaluated our Faith and moved closer to God. We both walked a shaky path, believing, but not necessarily practicing the act of being a Christian. I was born into an African family, but my parents sent me to a Catholic girls’ school. The Afrikaans church was so judgmental that my parents basically had to leave their church, and since then we have been Methodists. Bear with me…….there’s a “moral of the story” coming.

Friends of my parents were horrified that my people wanted me to become a nun at the age of 5… … it is the ignorance and the greatest fault of us Christians. Because we were in the apartheid era, our school accepted all religions and races… and we were taught about Jesus, but we were also taught to listen to others’ beliefs.

Now comes my dilemma. For me, being a true Christian is about following the talk. You will be horrified if you have to read some of the messages we receive (which I delete). before I block these people, I usually just go and see who they are….and 90% of the time it’s someone who has a Christian quote or picture at the top of their timeline, and I stare in disbelief, that the terrible comment came from a god-fearing person.

There are many branches of the Christian church …..from the straight and narrow to the happy clap, and as long as it works for you, go for it BUT stop judging the person who attends a church that is slightly different. I can honestly say that in my lifetime I have only met four people who HAVE walked the talk. You can’t be a Christian and judge others or talk behind their backs.

Rudi had recently become a newborn Christian, and he was very enthusiastic about the Bible, trying to turn away from his past and share his experiences. He then had a visitor who perished and he basically told him that if he doesn’t support ABC, then he’s not a Christian. Of course, this made Rudi doubt himself, but the question I ask is… why would one Christian do this to another Christian? Sure, we’re all human beings, and we’re entitled to our own opinions, but I think a lot of people need to go do a real soul search, and ask yourself if you’re a TRUE Christian.

We live in a very confused society and in a world filled with turbulence, why do we make each other more miserable, instead of standing together and helping each other. A complete stranger came up to me in the hallway in ICU and just asked if she could give me a hug because I looked like I needed it. This is what we should focus on, instead of commenting if someone’s dress is too short or if the man’s hair is too long. We seem to be losing our way and we don’t even realize it.

If there’s a little advice I can give you is to check out the movie called “The Shack” on Netflix. About halfway, I thought… it’s a bit “Hallmark”, but by the end I was crying. Eventually, someone managed to show me what to be a Christian (and what was missing in MY soul). Do yourself a favor, go look at it, and then look into your soul again, and let’s just try to be nicer to each other …….. it can only save someone’s life and make you a happier person.

Bless you all for reading this, and may you have a wonderful weekend.

    Suzette xx
